Or: coochoo-coochee dance , a belly dance which sinuous twisting of the torso, performed at the Worlds Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893, by Fahreda Mahzar, billed as Little Egypt, Darling of the Nile , a sleek Egyptian beauty who had come to America with a troupe of Syrian dancers. It became the talk of the entire decade and later became known as the hoochie-coochie / hootchy-kootchy . The dance is thought to be named after the state of Cooch Behar in Bengal.
