British expression to describe someone as being thoroughly: a) homosexual , or: b) criminal, dishonest. Based on the fact that-there is no such thing as a British nine-bob note. The American equivalents are queer-as-a-three-dollar-bill , queer-as-a-football-bat , queer-as-a-nine-dollar-bill , queer-as-a-square-egg .
