Obsolete sailors' slangonym for the penis or an erect penis . See penis for synonyms.
Etymology: Because it sticks out like the bowsprit on a ship or because of: ' its figurative resemblance, when "under sailing orders," to the tapered pole extending forward from the bow of a sailing vessel .' J.E. Schmidt, Lecher's Lexicon (1967).
