1. In the late 1920s, a girl who was not only good-looking but also modern in her views on dating and necking ; a liberated woman of her day.

2. From the 1960s onward, any female, more often young, usually but not necessarily, attractive . Sometimes modified: slick-chick , a stylish young woman ; hip-chick , a hipster.
Etymology: Arose in the 15 th century as a shortened form of chicken , a newly hatched fowl. Thus chick implies youth.
