Or: detumesence of the clitoris , the return of an erect clitoris to its natural size and state after orgasm . The cessation of sexual stimuli causes the reduction of engorgement (vasocongestion) in the erectile tissues of the clitoris ; clitoral detumescence is much slower than penile-detumescence requiring anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes if orgasm is achieved; if not, the clitoris may remain in erection for 12 to 24 hours resulting in considerable discomfort.
