1. In primitive societies, the partial stitching, clamping, or wiring together of the foreskin of the penis (the preputial orifice) or lips of the vulva to prevent sexual-intercourse leaving a small opening for urination . The ritual usually included cutting off the inner lips (or labia minora) and stitching together the outer lips (or labia majora). Male infibulation also made erection painful and masturbation impossible.
