Etymology: a) Named after the German inventor of the self-cleaning toilet Thomas Crapper (not Thomas Shitehousen as claimed by Roger's Profanisaurus ) in 1882 or by a by John Crapper in 1778. b) From crap , from the Dutch krappen , to pluck off , cut off or separate; from the Low German, krape, a vile and inedible fish ; from the French crappe , siftings (of wasted grains) itself from the Latin crappa and crapinum , the smaller chaff.
