Or: hedge-creeper , a common or cheap prostitute , one who would lay on her back in the open air. Defined by Captain Francis Grose in his Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1811): ' An itinerant harlot , who bilks the bagnios and bawdy-houses, by disposing of her favours on the wayside, under a hedge; a low beggarly prostitute .'
