A lockable device fitted around genital area of a wife to ensure her fidelity or on a daughter to guard her chastity ; in the 19 th century, to prevent young women from masturbaring. The chastity belts available today from sex- and mail order shops are sex-toys designed, not to ensure chastity , but rather to thwart sexual pleasure, prolong foreplay , heighten arousal and invite a lovers violation.
