1. The female genitals . Obsolete; a 16 th century word stemming from the Scottish madge, any woman and Madge , a common Scottish female name. Defined by Captain Francis Grose in Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1811) as: ' The private-parts of a woman .'

2. In gay parlance, according to Bruce Rodgers in The Queen's Vernacular (1972): ' gay nickname and vocative indicating an ill-dressed, dowdy homosexual .'
