Or: do-the-deed / do-the-dirty-deed / deed of sex / deed-of-kind / deed-of-pleasure , dated literary euphemism for copulation ; used in that sense by Geoffrey Chaucer (ca. 1343-1400) in The Canterbury Tales and by his contemporaries. See copulation for synonyms. Dirty deed has survived. Quote: Babs (Martha Smith) to Mandy Pepperidge (Mary Louise Weller) in National Lampoon's Animal-House (1978): ' Are you and Greg doing the dirty deed or not? '
